Karen is a founding staff member and a veteran of both public and charter high schools. She began her teaching career as an English teacher at Henry M. Gunn High School in Palo Alto, California – which has been ranked as one of the top 100 high schools in the nation by U.S. News and World Report and Newsweek over the last five years. At Gunn, she was involved with several progressive programs relating to interdisciplinary academics and diversity awareness. She co-created a “Facing History and Ourselves” English elective that incorporated ethical and moral philosophy with civic responsibility and cross-cultural acceptance. Following a re-location to the Central Valley and a new baby, Karen joined the staff of Crescent View Charter High School where she worked for several years. Before going into education, Karen graduated from the University of Nevada-Reno with a degree in journalism and then worked as a high-tech public relations consultant for some of the country’s largest multimedia and telecommunications companies.
