ACEL Hires First Teacher

At yesterday’s board meeting I am excited to report that ACEL-Fresno hired its very first teacher – Ms. Sonia Gutierrez.  Ms. Gutierrez will teach math and Spanish and possibly art at ACEL starting with the 2009-2010 school year.  Ms. Gutierrez is a valley native, having grown up in the Turlock area.  She is currently working on her Master’s Degree in Math and Math Instruction at Fresno State while teaching math at Liberty High School in the Golden Valley Unified School District.  We are very fortunate to have her expertise and her energy to build our teaching staff around.

Thank you to all of the ACEL students and parents who came out on May 9 to help us interview prospective teachers.  It was a great day, including our pizza luncheon and raffle giveaway.  It was great to see students making new friends already, months before our school even launches.  It was a busy day, so I didn’t have time to take as many pictures as I would have liked, but there are some on the front page. Enjoy.
